We took part in an international competition in collaboration with Studio 9 Architects, an architecture and interior design studio based in London. Our mission was to realize a “vacation home” and a space for tasting for a small local company that works in the olive oil production in Portugal. We imagined a building that could immerse itself in the context following the trend of the ground and that could use sustainable materials to respect the surrounding environment. We wanted to combine tradition and modernity using simple lines and giving a “monolithic” aspect to the building. The division of spaces is based on the concept of “public” and “private” by placing the rooms on different levels based on the different use of the places. The brown color of the structure is given by the rammed earth construction technique which was chosen for its aesthetic characteristic, for its sustainability and for its thermal insulation capacity which gives greater energy efficiency to the entire building.
